Troleibuzele au fost introduse in 13 aprilie 1938, acest sistem de transport functionand pana la data de 10 iunie 1973.

Data reintroducerii troleibuzelor este 26 iunie 1997. In perioada 2000 - 2007 sistemul de transport cu troleibuzul a fost sistat din cauza, printre altele, lucrarilor de reconstructie a Piazza De Ferrari.

La ora actuala sunt functionale doua rute:

20 Foce (Via Rimassa) - Sampierdarena (Piazza Vittorio Veneto)

30 Brignole station - Via di Francia (WTC)

Se doreste extinderea retelei de troleibuz.

Incepand cu data de 15 octombrie 2012, traseul 30 a fost anulat.

In atasament, magazinul Metrogenova nr. 14. O prezentare a sistemelor de troleibuz din Genova si San Remo.

Genova doreste extinderea retelei de troleibuz pe 4 axe-forte, precum si achizitionarea unor troleibuze de 24 m.

In acest sens, a fost imprumutat pentru testare, un troleibuz apartinand Linz AG Linien.

Este primul vehicul cu lungimea de peste 18,7 m din Italia.

Proiectul este definitivat: vor fi 4 axe forte deservite cu 145 troleibuze de 18 metri.

S-a scurs timpul, au fost tot felul de povesti... orasul italian dorea renuntarea la troleibuze si inlocuirea cu autobuze electrice TOSA.

Pana la urma Ministerul nu a acceptat varianta Genovei, argumentand ca nu poate investi fonduri intr-o tehnologie ce nu si-a dovedit eficienta.

Asadar, proiectul a suferit urmatoarele modificari: pe 3 trasee vor fi troleibuze IMC iar pe al 4-lea, autobuze TOSA.
