In regiunea Emilia Romagna circula atat trenurile RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) cat si cele ale FER (Ferrovie Emilia Romagna).

Incepand cu 1 ianuarie 2020, liniile regionale sunt integrate Servizio Ferroviario Metropolitano Bologna (SFMBO), fiind deservite de Trenitalia TPER.

Gestionarul infrastructurii feroviare este RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana), cu exceptia liniilor Bologna - Vignola si Bologna - Portomaggiore, de importanta regionala, gestionarul lor fiind FER (Ferrovie Emilia Romagna).
