NEW WAVE OF INTEREST IN TROLLEYBUS IN TURKEY AND WORLDWIDE

The city of Malatya (Turkey) chose in 2014 trolleybus technology as the backbone of the city’s electric on-road urban public transit network.

A novelty for Turkey! Since the summer of 2014 the trolleybus network started operations and the operator, called MOTAS, joined UITP immediately to become member of the UITP Trolleybus Committee. At the occasion of the bi-annual Trolleybus Committee Meeting and on request of many of its members, UITP decided to organise an International workshop around the theme of new introduction of a trolleybus system in a city. Against the background of a wider interest in trolleybus solution stemming from various medium-sized cities in Anatolia and Turkey and with the experience of international best practices, this unique workshop is designed as a full day programme with presentations, witnesses from practitioners from around the world and with room for debates in groups and reporting.

Trolleybus and e-grid bus technology is rapidly developing with over 310 cities in the world operating trolleybus systems and new cities entering the circle of trolleybus operators every year. Based on this assessment, the trolleybus system is now considered as a modern and reliable alternative in the cities transport policies.

The workshop will propose 3 theatrical blocks with a session focusing on the modal choice between trolleybus, e-bus and diesel bus. One session dedicated on how to build and operate an efficient trolleybus system (based on the recently published UITP brochure). Taking advantage of the location of the event in the heart of Turkey, it will be as well the opportunity to learn about the Turkish reality and hear from the host country about the new wave of interest from other candidate trolleybus cities in the region.

The workshop will be co-hosted by MOTAS and the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality.

Don’t miss this unique event to meet experts and exchange experience.

Attention! The biggest Batterybus mistakes!

The Batterybus can not:
• used without detailed planning, because there is an infrastructure system
• be loaded any power socket
• be loaded on each existing bus terminus or stop because off not sufficient power available
• be loaded - without any additional effort - from existing electric transport systems, because the power grid have far too large fluctuations
• go as far as indicating the industry (distance & charging cycles)
• the same capacity transport (weight and space requirements of the batteries)

When purchasing the Batterybus is unclear:
• Who pays the procurement of spare batteries?
• How high are the costs of disposal for the batteries?

With the use of Batterybuses the operator has higher costs. He must ask himself, how he gets the delta cost replaced!
