The first 10km section of main line in Israel has been electrified and is ready to be energised. This is part of the 35km section of the new A1 link between Jerusalem Navon (formerly Hauma) station and Anava Junction.
Once the section between Tunnel Number 1 on the A1 Link and Lod, the location of the electric train depot, is completed, test running with electric trains will start. Electrification work will now continue along the rest of the A1 Link towards Tel Aviv and on the 8km section from Tel Aviv to Hertzliya on the Haifa main line. In parallel, the 8km section between Anava junction and Modi'in Central will also be electrified.
The 57km A1 Link, which will provide a new direct rail connection between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, is due to be completed by April 2018 when the A1 is expected to open, which means the start of electric train operation in Israel.http://www.railjournal.com/index.php/mi ... hannel=539
